Sales people have been known to go door-to-door pitching repair services in disaster-hit areas. While some of these folks are reputable, others are not. Educate yourself so that you won't become a victim.
- Ask to see the person's driver's license and be sure to write it down. Record the license plate number of the car they are driving
- Get more than one estimate. Don't sign a contract right away
- Get everything in writing—including cost, details of work order, time guarantees, and payment schedules
- Demand references and check them. Contact your local Better Business Bureau for help
- Never sign a contract with blanks in it
- Don't pay for the entire job until the work is complete and you are fully satisfied with the quality
